INCREASING GROUND CLEARANCE
I bought my Amigo in March (yes, March) of 1998. I was informed that it was the first
one sold west of the Rockies. I even called Isuzu once and they said, "How did you
get one already, we haven't even seen one yet!". Ok enough boasting.
INCREASING GROUND CLEARANCE
I have taken my Amigo on some trails here in Northern Nevada and I noticed that my
underside was taking a beating from the numerous rocks I had encountered on my travels. I
searched high and low for a lift "kit" and everyone I talked to said "Isuzu
stopped making Amigo's years ago". That was before I ran into Chris Perosi and his Amigo Lift page. Chris's page
is very informative and very well covers the steps and parts needed to perform a moderate
3" suspension lift to a 1998 Amigo. As a note of interest, I do not change my oil and
do not consider myself a "wrencher" by any stretch of the imagination, I work on
and with computers, I performed the lift alone ('o solo Mio) in just over 4 hours, the
temperature outside was in the lower 30's and ice was my biggest obstruction since I had
hosed the undercarriage before beginning. Recommendation, pressure wash you under carriage
thoroughly and saturate the nuts and bolts a lot before starting. I soaked the
undercarriage nuts and bolts each day for 5 days before I started and it made the work
much easier. As far as pressure washing the undercarriage, you don't have to if you are
fond of gunk falling in you face. Yes, I bought the spring compressors. (anybody need
them?). I do recommend the adjustable shocks, very much worth the difference in price.
Here is some before and after pictures of the lift.

Chris Perosi's 1998 Amigo Lift page is at http://www.off-road.com/~cperosi/lift.html
I decided to go even higher. As of December 1999, I have increased my suspension lift
to 4.5" over stock. The new springs are 4.5" over stock. 1.5" over original
lift of 3".

Springs and spring compressors.
Completed lift with 265 75 r16's on.

Room for more tire!
