Create your own J-pole scanner antenna

This is my first antenna project. I did a fair amount of reading on the Internet regarding J-pole design and applications. I also spent a fair amount of time reading about electromagnetic fields that are the magicical elements that make antennas work. Now you could read up on antennas and electromagnetic fields which will help you to understand how this simple antenna works or you can just make the calculations cut up some 1/2" copper tubing and build one.
First I have to give some major credit to the following and especially
to Mike and his
J-pole design page It was his page and support that encouraged me to pursue a J-pole
antenna for my scanner. This was even after people on the Radio Reference Forum said that a
J-pole is for Hams and not suggested for scanner applications. I have since posted a fair
amount of information on the Radio
Reference Forum and I think there will be a few more J-poles popping up. I also found
some more J-pole specifications for 2-meter radios here.
As well as a J-pole for Packet Radio here.
There is also some significant antenna information available on the Internet and the one
page with the most links to antenna information can be found here. Of course absolutley
no antenna information would be complete without the addition of the ARRL website and the antennas book made famous by the amount of information and help in
understanding this complicated science of antenna design.

More later. It's late and I must sleep.
